Personal Coaching

Dr. Nay is available for personal guidance both in his private offices and for others who wish personal and individualized guidance through telephone coaching. It should be understood that coaching is not psychotherapy and is of an educational nature.

  • 1 Why coaching instead of therapy? Perhaps you believe your relationship is negatively affected by how you or your partner express anger or handle conflict. You don’t believe that either of you are experiencing a mental illness or serous personal problem and don’t think you need to be in psychotherapy, yet you need some advice and guidance as to how to change things for the better. You can read Dr. Nay’s books, but would like some hands on guidance without having to attend therapy sessions. Or perhaps you wonder if couples counseling or individual counseling would be helpful. Personal coaching can be a time effective, reasonable solution. As your coach, Dr. Nay will help you decide on attainable goals and direct your efforts at learning new ways of managing anger in your life or relationship. If you need further counseling, he will explain what your options are and help you find a therapist in your community. You are in control of determining what you want out of the coaching.
  • 2 How can you learn to manage the intensity of this emotion while communicating effectively. Based on Dr. Nay’s career-long work with anger and aggression, all faces of anger are dealt with, from “cold anger” (withdrawing, not talking) through passive-aggression, sarcasm to hostility (intense, easily disgusted and irritable, stressed-out) and aggression (more serious name-calling or physical violence). When Dr. Nay believes you are at risk he will help to suggest a professional who can help you locally.
  • 3 Improving your intimate relationships at home or relationships at work. Dr. Nay can help you identify what needs to be improved and will suggest resources and offer ideas to get your relationship back on track.
  • 4 Communicating effectively with your teenage children. Setting limits and reaching solutions all can live with. Coping with your angry/acting out child/teen.
  • 5 Parenting issues that may seem unsolvable. Coaching you through bedtime, temper tantrums, sibling conflict, non-compliance with your requests, homework issues, step-parenting issues/co-parenting with a divorced co-parent and others. Helping you decide whether individual or family therapy for your child may be needed and helping you with a referral.
  • 6 Older Adults / Caregivers. Are you struggling with answers to these questions – How long can I continue to live alone without assistance? How long can I safely drive a vehicle? When is it time to seek a neuropsychological evaluation? When is it time to move into assisted living? Head over to our Older Adults / Caregivers page for additional information and coaching services.
